Alligator Kills 85-Year-Old Florida Woman As She Walked Her Dog

An 85-year-old Florida woman was killed on Monday while walking her dog after an alligator attacked her, according to authorities.

Gloria Serge was taking her small dog for a stroll by the pond in her Ft. Pierce community when the gator attacked. It attempted to take her dog, according to bystanders, but ended up dragging Serge in after trying to fight it off.

“Ms. Serge was knocked over and the alligator pulled her into the water by her foot,” according to an incident report.

“Serge was pulled into deeper water and died as a result of the incident,” it continued. The alligator was approximately 10 feet long, and weighed an estimated 600 to 700 pounds. It was caught and euthanized.

The dog survived and Serge’s body was recovered.

There are over one million alligators in Florida, but attacks are rare. Unfortunately they do happen on occasion, like with Ms. Serge.

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the friends and family of the victim.
