You might be wondering how it’s possible to go surfing in a river. Jamie O’Brien and crew are here to show us how!
When O’Brien knew there was a great opportunity when he saw that flash flooding at Waimea River was looking like it was going to break out into the ocean. He knew that if the flow kept up it was likely to be a good day for surfing.
Once they get to the parking lot, they realize it’s already started pouring into the ocean, so they start prepping their boards.
The flow starts off slow enough, but pretty soon it starts speeding up and the surfing just gets better.
Eventually, the flooding from the river gets so intense that one of O’Brien’s runs nearly ends with him drowning.
