Hotel guests at the CityQuartier DomAquarée in Berlin had a stay they won’t forget when a massive aquarium burst in the hotel lobby.
The AquaDom, an 82-foot-tall aquarium located in the hotel lobby unexpectedly shattered, spilling over 1 million liters of water and 1,500 exotic fish. Two people were injured by debris from the tank bursting and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
A silver-lining to the incident is that it happened in the early morning when the lobby wasn’t busy.
It’s highly likely that a lot more people could have been hurt if it had happened later in the day.
Water pressure from the tank was so intense that it flooded into the streets along with debris.
Around 100 emergency responders arrived to help out at the bizarre scene.
Although the tank affected the main floor and the outside streets, 350 guests were evacuated from the hotel for their safety. Buses were brought to the scene to provide temporary shelter to the displaced guests.
As insane as the situation is, police aren’t searching for suspects in the explosion. It’s currently believed that extremely cold outside temperatures could have caused the tank to malfunction.
